BREAKING: An outrage: Minnesota moves Line 3 pipeline forward

June 28, 2018

In response to the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) decision, Greenpeace USA Pipeline Campaign lead, Rachel Rye Butler said:

“This decision in favor of the Certificate of Need is an outrage and shows that the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has squarely placed the greed of Big Oil before the rights of Indigenous Nations and the safety of all Minnesotans. Regardless of today’s decision, the movement to stop the Line 3 tar sands oil pipeline will not be deterred. The powerful, Indigenous-led movement against pipelines has stopped pipelines before, and together, we will do so again.

“Let this serve as a warning to the banks and companies backing these destructive projects: oil pipelines that threaten water, violate Indigenous rights, and put the environment at risk of oil spills  — including Line 3, Keystone XL, and the Trans Mountain Expansion pipeline — will continue to face a growing resistance. These projects will remain a reputational and financial liability.”
