Over the weekend, a massive spill leaked at least 126,000 gallons of oil from a broken pipeline connected to an offshore drilling platform about five miles off the coast of Orange County, CA.
Huntington Beach, California — In response to the massive spill this weekend in Southern California, Senior Climate Campaigner Caroline Henderson said:
“This most recent oil spill is further evidence of the urgent need to phase out dangerous drilling in our state. While more than 125,000 gallons of oil seep into our water and beaches, California is also enduring yet another record-breaking wildfire season. How many emergencies does Governor Newsom need before he stops the expansion of fossil fuels in California?”
In the fight against climate change, Governor Jerry Brown could set a bold precedent for other leaders around the globe. We need a trailblazer in office — and the time for decisive action is now.
"Fifteen billion dollars is a lot of money, but if the Governor really wants to future-proof California as he said, then he must know that throwing money at the problem while continuing to approve new fossil fuel permits that are driving the climate chaos, is nonsensical."
What will it take for the Senate to listen to the people and not fossil fuel lobbyists?
