Mitch McConnell’s HEALS Act Adds Insult to Injury

July 27, 2020

The plan put forth by Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans is not enough to provide the further relief workers and families desperately need.

“The plan put forth by Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans is not enough to provide the further relief workers and families desperately need. It will do nothing to support  a people-powered democracy and protect vital public services, such as the U.S. Postal Service. Instead, McConnell is laser-focused on shielding corporations from legal liability, even while they receive billions of dollars in bailouts and exploit predominantly Black, Brown, and Indigenous workers in a pandemic.

“The HEALS Act, Senate Republicans’ half-hearted, piecemeal proposal that took over two months to bring forth after the House passed the more people-first HEROES Act, is not nearly good enough to meet the magnitude of what we are facing. We need immediate investments for families, essential workers, and our democracy — not measures that prioritize corporate profits over people as the pandemic rages on.

“We need solutions that actually match the scale of the problem by investing in people, not corporations. This proposal adds insult to injury, and will not help us navigate out of these crises.“
