A warm and sunny hello from Charlotte, NC! Greenpeace USA has opened our most recent office in the Queen's City and we have hit the ground running. In early May, Greenpeace NC participated in an action outside the Duke Energy Headquarters in Charlotte. We stood in solidarity with other environmental and social justice groups to call on Duke Energy to shut down dirty, old coal-fired power plants and instead invest in clean, renewable energy now.

Our official Kick Off Meeting was in early July and brought together people from across the city to share our stories, values and visions for a cleaner, safer Charlotte. Since then we have been going to festivals and farmer's markets to collect about  1,000 public comments to EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson , calling on her to pass regulations on toxic air pollutants like mercury. Check out our video comment here! Charlotte has some of the worst air quality on the East Coast and regulations like this one will play an important step in protecting the health of North Carolinians.

Home to (soon to be) the largest energy company in the country, we are focusing our efforts right now on Duke Energy and the fight against coal. North Carolina is the second most coal dependent state, so we know just how important this campaign is for moving the country towards a clean energy economy.
