The forests of Chile are among some of the world's most rare and endangered, including temperate rainforests. The biggest threat to the survival of these forests are conversion into tree farms.

The unprecedented announcement marks a turning point in one of the most contentious environmental campaigns ever waged in Chile. Over the past year, major U.S. market consumers have made far-reaching commitments to protect Chile's native forests.
