Greenpeace Japan today announced that Sam Annesley has officially taken up the role as the new Executive Director as of 4 December.

Annesley comes with more than 10 years experience in environmental issues, peace education, cultural exchange and working with various NGOs and educational sectors. After the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, he reaffirmed the power of each individual’s role in a society through his volunteer work in devastated areas.

”The mission of Greenpeace Japan is to preserve this beautiful planet for future generations. However, environmental problems cannot be solved by Greenpeace alone. We will engage with people who care about our current environmental situation, and invite more citizens to take action with us. With more people power, we can build a greener and more peaceful world for all,” said Annesley.

“Amongst the many environmental issues that need to be addressed, Greenpeace Japan will focus on tackling the issue of climate change. We believe that Japan has an important role to play and a responsibility to stop coal-fired power generation, which is one of the biggest causes of climate change,” he added.
