Kathmandu, Nepal – November 2, 2025:

The Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) 2025 wrapped up in Kathmandu this weekend, bringing together 115 young climate enthusiasts. The two-day event, held on November 1 – 2, was organised by Power Shift Nepal with support from partners including UNDP, UNICEF, TEWA, YASEN, NYCA, Harin Nepal, Nepal Climate Hub, YAE and Clean Energy Nepal (CEN). Session partners included ICIMOD, WiNN, Greenpeace South Asia, Digo Bikas Institute, and GreenHood Nepal.

LCOY, held under YOUNGO, the official youth constituency of the UNFCCC, aims to strengthen youth involvement in climate action. It provides a space for young people to learn, share ideas, and contribute to global climate discussions connected to the COP process.

One of the highlights of the event was the “Climate Loss and Damage” session, where Greenpeace South Asia (GPSA) participated as a panelist. Shikha Gurung Khetan, representing GPSA, underscored Greenpeace’s ongoing efforts in climate accountability and shared findings from the organization’s latest research on extreme climate events in India and Bangladesh. The discussion also touched upon Greenpeace’s broader mission to expose environmental challenges and promote sustainable solutions, including its recent stance on the MSC spillover issue.

The discussions and ideas from LCOY 2025 will be compiled into the Youth Declaration Paper, the main outcome of the event. This document will be submitted to the Government of Nepal as part of the national position for COP30, and to YOUNGO, ensuring that youth voices from Nepal are heard on the global stage.

As the world prepares for COP30, LCOY 2025 highlights once again how young people are leading the way toward a climate-resilient future.
