Position: Food Campaign Intern
Duration: May-October 2025
Reporting to: Food Campaigner
1. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Across Africa, shifting weather patterns, soil degradation, and biodiversity loss are threatening food security and community livelihoods. Yet, food systems also hold tremendous potential to offer powerful climate and environmental solutions when rooted in sustainability, justice, and community leadership.
Greenpeace Africa’s Food Campaign is committed to advancing food sovereignty and building sustainable, climate-resilient food systems rooted in agroecology and community leadership. To help drive this vision forward, we are looking for a passionate and proactive intern to support this work, helping to amplify voices, share powerful stories, and support policy and public engagement efforts across the continent.
This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to meaningful people-centered climate action, gain experience in grassroots campaigning, advocacy, research, and storytelling, and support the broader movement for food and climate justice in Africa. The intern will work closely with the Food Campaigner and the campaign team to asist with campaign coordination, research, storytelling, and public engagement, helping to amplify voices and actions that are shaping a healthier, more just food future for Africa.
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Campaign Coordination & Support
- Assist in planning, logistics, and coordination of campaign activities (community engagements, learning exchanges, advocacy workshops, field visits, policy roundtables, digital campaigns, youth dialogues, and strategic webinars. etc.).
- Provide administrative and organizational support during events and field visits.
- Track timelines, partner commitments, and activity outputs.
- Content Development & Documentation
- Support documentation of campaign activities through writing, photography, and data gathering.
- Draft summaries, meeting reports, and partner briefs.
- Assist in creating blog posts, social media content, and digital storytelling materials.
- Research & Analysis
- Support background research including topics such as agroecology, seed laws, pesticide use, and food sovereignty in Africa.
- Compile and organize relevant studies, policy briefs, and media mentions.
- Monitor key events (COP, regional summits, etc.) for advocacy entry points.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Communications
- Support outreach to allies, volunteers, and grassroots communities.
- Assist in organizing collaborative projects with farmers, CSOs, and influencers.
- Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL)
- Support basic data collection and reflections from campaign activities.
- Assist in gathering feedback from partners and participants.
- Contribute to internal reports and learning sessions.
3. QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION
- Education:
- A degree/diploma graduate in Agriculture, Environmental Studies, Development Studies, Political Science or a related field.
- Skills & Experience:
- A strong interest in food justice, agroecology, and environmental activism.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to learn and support community-based work and campaign events.
- Any prior experience (volunteer, academic, or personal) in research, writing, organizing events, or storytelling is a plus.
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office/Google Suite);
- Social media awareness and understanding/openness to understand the African civil society landscape is desirable.
- Bilingual proficiency (English required; French an advantage).

4. PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
- Timely delivery of documentation – At least 90% of assigned reports, blogs, or activity summaries are submitted within agreed timelines and meet quality standards (clarity, relevance, accuracy).
- Effective partner engagement – Participate in and support coordination for a minimum of 3 partner or community engagement activities during the internship period.
- Support in campaign implementation – Actively contribute to the planning and execution of at least 2 key campaign moments (e.g. Community engagement, webinars, field visits), including logistical or content-related tasks.
- Research and information management – Complete at least 2 research assignments or data-gathering tasks that directly support campaign strategy or messaging, with findings clearly organized and presented.
- Personal learning and development – Demonstrate growth in campaign knowledge and advocacy skills through active participation in team meetings, mentorship sessions, and by completing a final reflection or learning brief by the end of the internship.
5. WORKING CONDITIONS
- The position is primarily remote, with occasional travel or in-person participation in field activities, events, or meetings where needed.
- The intern will be supported by and report directly to the Food Campaigner, with regular check-ins and mentorship opportunities.
- The intern will receive a stipend in accordance with Greenpeace Africa’s internship policy.
