Position Title: Volunteer Intern

A. Background
Greenpeace Africa is a growing movement of people acting in the protection of the environment. Our campaigns use peaceful, creative and confrontational tactics to expose environmental injustices around the world and develop solutions for a green and peaceful future. Our mission is to empower the people of Africa in the quest of environmental and social justice across the continent.
The Office Assistant Intern will support the organization in managing the daily administrative operations of the organisation.
B. Objectives of the Role
The ideal candidate will be a diligent professional, capable of handling a variety of office tasks and working conscientiously under pressure. This person will pay close attention to detail in their work and be discreet, while incorporating new and effective methods to achieve better results.
C. Responsibilities
- Work flexible hours according to needs and other duties
- Assist in organizing activities, workshops, webinars, and mini-campaigns on climate justice and environmental issues.
- Support logistics for events (venue booking, materials, participant communication etc).
- Support in maintaining communication with volunteers (WhatsApp, social media groups).
- Assist in drafting monthly and quarterly reports
- Create content for social media (Facebook, Instagram, and later TikTok,) to engage youth audiences.
- Design posters, infographics, or short videos on our activities and climate justice topics.
- Help build relationships with youth groups, schools, NGOs, and local environmental groups.
- Represent the organization in online and offline events where necessary
D. Qualifications and Competencies
- Educational Background: Currently enrolled or graduated with a degree in human and social sciences;
- Degree and/or university degree in environmental sciences or a related field with a minimum of 6 months of experience.
- Expérience:
- Community involvement and activism: Experience in voluntary work, taking part in local initiatives or awareness-raising campaigns on environmental and social issues, particularly with organisations such as Greenpeace.
- Logistical support for events: Contributing to the organisation and management of advocacy events, press conferences, training or climate mobilisations as a volunteer.
- Communication and awareness-raising: Participation in the creation of educational content, mobilisation on social networks, or coordination with partners for local and global actions.
- Key Skills:
- Passionate Greenpeace Africa Volunteer
- Passion for climate justice & community engagement.
- Good knowledge on social media and community management
- Strong communication (written & verbal) and bilingual is added advantage
- Ability to work with diverse youth activists and groups.
- Personal Attributes:
- Commitment to Greenpeace’s values and mission.
- Creativity, adaptability, and the ability to work under pressure.
E. Reporting and Supervision
The Volunteer Intern will work under direct supervision of the Volunteer Coordinator, with a dotted line to Planet One Community Manager.
F. Duration and Contract
This position is an internship with an initial 6-month contract.
