INTRODUCTION
Greenpeace Africa (GPAF) is a growing movement of people acting in protection of the environment. Our campaigns use peaceful, creative confrontation to expose environmental injustices around the world and develop solutions for a green and peaceful future. GPAf wishes to appoint a Research Intern who will render services according to the Scope of work outlined in this advertisement.
DUTIES
With guidance and support from the GPAf Senior Researcher, the Research Intern will undertake the following duties:
- Carry out desk-based literature reviews and/ primary data collection on specific topics of interest to Greenpeace Africa as follows:
- Main discourses and issues arising from the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy in South Africa.
- The challenges and opportunities faced in attempts to promote food and seed sovereignty and agro-ecology in sub-Saharan Africa.
- Best-practices on land tenure and customary land rights in sub-Saharan Africa and the intersection with community-based natural resources management.
- Attend relevant local and international events and dialogue platforms where issues/ topics of interest to GPAf are discussed – produce briefing reports based on key insights from the proceedings of the events.
DURATION
Notwithstanding the signature date, the Internship shall run for a period of 6 Months
QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters Degree in Development Studies/ social sciences or related disciplines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Supervision and Support:
The intern will receive guidance and feedback from their supervisor throughout the internship. Regular check-ins will be conducted to discuss progress and areas for improvement.
Confidentiality:
The intern will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement to protect sensitive information related to the organization’s operations.
Evaluation Process:
The intern’s performance will be reviewed at the midpoint and conclusion of the internship period. Feedback will be provided based on the completion of assigned tasks, initiative, and overall contribution to the team.
