About the position: 

The purpose of the role is to support grassroots leadership and strengthen community participation in climate resilience initiatives in Mannar through youth mobilisation, relationship building, community coordination, and creative participatory engagement.

Vacancy Announcement Greenpeace South Asia 

In this role you will: 

The role involves building and maintaining strong relationships with local communities, stakeholders, youth groups, and partner organisations to support climate resilience initiatives in Mannar. Responsibilities include facilitating community engagement activities, consultations, and participatory discussions; mobilising community participation in campaigns and creative interventions; supporting documentation of local climate impacts, stories, and community-led solutions; coordinating workshops, events, and collaborations with artists and campaign teams; and providing regular field updates, reports, and insights to support programme implementation and advocacy efforts. 

Whom we’re looking for: 

The ideal candidate should have strong connections with local communities, particularly fishing communities in Mannar and surrounding areas, along with a demonstrated interest in climate justice, environmental issues, and grassroots community engagement. They should possess experience in community mobilisation, facilitation, volunteering, or community development initiatives, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups including youth and vulnerable communities. Strong communication skills in Tamil and/or Sinhala are essential, while basic coordination, documentation, and engagement skills are required. Interest or experience in storytelling, arts-based engagement, and creative community processes will be considered an added advantage.
