The MSC ELSA 3 shipwreck is spreading plastic pellets and other hazardous cargo across South Asia’s coastline — from the shores of Kerala and Tamil Nadu in India, all the way to the coasts of Sri Lanka. While our communities face the possibility of poisoned waters, dead marine life, and destroyed livelihoods, the polluter hides behind silence.
This is a grave environmental and humanitarian crisis and our taxpayers should not have to bear the cost for the negligence of a corporate giant!
We demand MSC:
- Create and share a transparent action plan to clean up the mess with independent monitoring
- Take financial liability for the loss of livelihood and marine biodiversity, and compensate our coastal communities.
This disaster knows no borders, and neither should justice.
