Bangkok, Thailand — November 6, 2025 — Greenpeace Southeast Asia (GPSEA) announces the appointment of Leo Horn-Phathanothai to its Board of Directors. A recognized leader in sustainable development and international environmental governance, Leo brings over two decades of experience bridging government, civil society, and global institutions to advance equitable climate and development solutions.
“It’s a privilege to join Greenpeace Southeast Asia at a time when our region stands on the frontline of the climate crisis,” said Leo Horn-Phathanothai. “The challenges before us, from climate change to biodiversity loss, demand courage, creativity, and collaboration across all sectors of society. I’m inspired to support Greenpeace’s efforts to drive systemic change and champion climate justice for all.”
Most recently, Leo led the organization and delivery of the first-ever Bangkok Climate Action Week, a landmark regional platform bringing together policymakers, businesses, and civil society to accelerate climate action in Southeast Asia. Before that, he served for over a decade as a Senior Director at the World Resources Institute (WRI), where he helped forge transformative partnerships and mobilized more than USD 350 million in funding to drive global progress on sustainability and equity.
Leo has also held senior positions with the United Nations, the World Bank, and the UK Government’s Department for International Development. He currently serves as Executive Director of the Just Transitions Incubator (JUTI), an organization he founded, and President for Innovation and Sustainability at Strategy613 Ltd. He is also Professor of Practice at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, Senior Adviser to Systemiq, and Affiliated Researcher with both Chiang Mai University’s School of Public Policy and the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) Asia.
Greenpeace Southeast Asia also extends its heartfelt gratitude to Angela Chen, who has stepped down after serving on the Board since 2019. Angela brought with her extensive experience in strategic planning, fundraising, programme management, and business development across Asia and Africa. A passionate advocate for education reform, she has held key leading roles including Asia Regional Director for the Educational Development Center (EDC) and positions with the World Bank.
“Angela’s leadership has been a source of clarity and stability in moments of change,” said Veerawit Tianchainan, Executive Director of Greenpeace Southeast Asia. “She brought steady guidance, strategic insight, and a genuine belief in people’s power to build a better world. Her contributions have strengthened the organization’s mission, and we are grateful for her years of dedicated service. We wish her every success in what comes next.”
Angela holds a degree in International Affairs and Economic Policy Management from Columbia University and has lived in Thailand for nearly two decades.
The appointment of Leo and the transition of Angela mark a new chapter in Greenpeace Southeast Asia’s ongoing commitment to strong, transparent governance and people-powered environmental action across the region.
