ביקורו של הנשיא טראמפ במדינות המפרץ הוא אירוע דרמטי ובעל חשיבות היסטורית לעתיד הקרוב ולתמורות במזרח התיכון. ומעל הכל הוא הזדמנות לשים סוף למלחמה האיומה ולמעגל האלימות חסר התקדים מאז ה-7 באוקטובר. כסניף הישראלי של גרינפיס – ארגון בין-לאומי, אשר חרט על דגלו את ההגנה על הטבע ועל כל צורות החיים, את קידום השלום, ערכי אי האלימות ופירוז מנשק גרעיני, אנו חייבים להשמיע את קולנו.
המלחמה הזו היא ציון דרך איום ונורא בסכסוך הישראלי פלסטיני. סבב אלימות זה החל במתקפת חמאס, ארגון טרור רצחני שביסודו ערכים אנטישמיים וקנאות דתית פונדמנטליסטית. טראומת הטבח של חמאס בתושבי העוטף ובאזרחי ישראל ב-7 באוקטובר, כמותו לא ידענו מאז ימי השואה, לעד תישאר בליבנו.
מאז פרוץ המלחמה תגובת הממשלה לטבח כללה גם לחימה עצימה, הפצצות מסיביות באזורים אורבניים צפופים ופגיעה בסיוע הומניטרי לאוכלוסייה אזרחית. מאז קריסת המו״מ להפסקת אש ולשחרור חטופים, כבר למעלה מ-70 יום ישנו מצור מלא על הרצועה הכולל מניעת כניסה של מזון ושל ציוד רפואי ומתגברות העדויות, מהן לא ניתן להתעלם, על חרפת רעב והיעדר גישה לשירותי רפואה בסיסיים. לצד זאת ישנן הצהרות חוזרות ונשנות של הדרג המדיני בישראל על ענישה קולקטיבית ופגיעה בכלל תושבי הרצועה. לאחרונה, נוספו קריאות לפינוי עזה מתושביה, גם במחיר של פגיעה בחטופים ובהעדפת חזיונות על תפיסת שטחים גם על חשבון חיי אדם. קריאה זו היא הלכה למעשה קריאה לטיהור אתני ואות קלון לממשלת ישראל.
למדיניות זו ישנה השלכות הרות גורל והרסניות:
- חמישים ושמונה חטופים עדיין נמקים בשבי חמאס בעזה. המלחמה ממשיכה להסב לציבור הישראלי אבדות כבדות בגוף ובנפש. חברה שלמה פצועה, חבולה ומחכה לריפוי ולהחלמה.
- מספר ההרוגים בעזה עומד על למעלה מ-50,000, כשמרביתם אינם פעילי חמאס. מספר הפצועים והסובלים מתת תזונה או מהיעדר שירותים רפואיים בסיסיים, כמו גם הסובלים מטראומה נפשית, מתקרב לכלל אוכלוסייתה של עזה. המצב הקשה והמורכב שלנו לא צריך לעוור או להשתיק אותנו בפני מציאות זו. כמו שענישה לא צריכה להיות קולקטיבית, חמלה לעולם אינה צריכה להיות סלקטיבית.
- פשעי המלחמה של חמאס – בין אם באמצעות שימוש באוכלוסייה אזרחית כמגן אנושי, שימוש בסיוע הומניטרי המיועד לאוכלוסייה אזרחית וטירגוט אזרחים חפים מפשע – אינם נותנים לגיטימציה לפשעי מלחמה ישראלים. פגיעה חסרת הבחנה באזרחים, שלילת מזון, מים וגישה לטיפול רפואי מאוכלוסייה אזרחית בזמן מלחמה הם הפרות חמורות של המשפט ההומניטארי הבינלאומי, שישראל חייבת לפעול לפיו.
- ישראל נמצאת בתהליך מסוכן של העמקת הבידוד שלה בעולם – אפילו מארה״ב, בעלת בריתה הקרובה ביותר. זהו אינו ביטוי של אנטישמיות, אלא ברובה ביקורת עניינית על מדיניותה של ממשלת ישראל. נפנוף זול באנטישמיות כמענה לכל ביקורת מערער את צדקת הדרך במאבק החשוב בגזענות ובאנטישמיות על ידי טשטוש של קווים אדומים. כן, יש קולות רדיקליים ואנטישמיים בקרב מבקרי ישראל וכן יש עלייה בתקריות אנטישמיות ברחבי העולם, אך אלו אינם פוטרים את ממשלת ישראל מהתמודדות עם המציאות, העובדות ולקיחת אחריות על פעילותה.
לאור כל זאת אנו קוראים לממשלת ישראל
- לסיים את המצור המלא על עזה ולאפשר באופן מיידי ובהול כניסה של סיוע הומניטרי
- לסיים את המלחמה באמצעות עסקה מקיפה הכוללת את שחרור כל החטופים בפעימה אחת והסגת כוחות צה"ל מעזה
- לפעול כדי שמלחמה זו תהיה האחרונה על ידי חידוש של תהליך מדיני לפתרון הסכסוך, תוך הכרה בזכותם של שני העמים להגדרה עצמית, שוויון, כבוד וחיים בטוחים
אם ממשלת ישראל תמשיך עם התוכניות הצבאיות שלה לכיבוש עזה, היא תבחר בדרך של הרס, מוות, הפקרת החטופים וטראומה בין דורית נוספת. היא חייבת לשמוע את קולם של רבים מאזרחיה המסורים וכל כך הרבה מחבריה ובני בריתה ברחבי העולם, בדרישה להפסיק את מעגל האלימות, להפסיק את המלחמה, להגיע להסכם להחזרת החטופים, לבחור בהחלמה ובריפוי, לבחור בחיים.

Greenpeace Israel position on the next steps in the war in Gaza
In those dramatic days in the Middle East, where Trump visit in the Gulf seems to be like the last chance to end an unprecedented cycle of violence, it is our duty, as the Israeli branch of Greenpeace – a global network that seeks to protect biodiversity in all its forms, promote peace, global disarmament and non-violence – to have a voice.
This war is a new peak in the long-standing, bloody conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. The current round was ignited by Hamas, a terror organization whose core values are unequivocally antisemitic and fundamentalist. Hamas, which has controlled Gaza since 2007, massacred the residents of the Gaza envelope on October 7 in a way that will forever remain etched in our hearts as a trauma we have not known since the Jewish Holocaust in WW2.
The Netanyahu government's response to Hamas’ trap of October 7 has included intense fighting and bombing in very densely populated areas and the reduction and cessation of humanitarian aid to the civilian population. For over 70 days now a full blockade of medical and food aid has been enforced. It has been accompanied by countless statements from senior government officials which called for indiscriminate harm to the entire population in Gaza. Recently the Israeli government has begun to talk about clearing Gaza of people, placing land before people, including the remaining hostages. A call to clear Gaza of people is a call to ethnic cleansing! And a disgrace.
All of this policy has fateful and devastating consequences:
- Fifty-eight hostages still languish in Hamas captivity in Gaza. The war continues to inflict heavy losses on Israel, in body and soul. An entire society is wounded and awaits healing.
- The number of fatalities in Gaza stands at approximately 50,000, most of whom are not Hamas operatives. The number of wounded and those suffering from malnutrition or the lack of basic medical services, as well as those suffering from psychological trauma, stands in the millions. Our own dramatic situation should not blind or silence us to this. Just as punishment should not be collective, compassion should never be selective.
- Hamas's war crimes – whether by using civilians as human shields or diverting humanitarian aid intended for the civilian population – do not legitimize Israel's. Indiscriminate harm to civilians, the denial of food, water, and basic means of sustenance from a civilian population during wartime are grave infractions of international humanitarian law that Israel must follow.
- Israel is in a process of deepening its own isolation in the world. The Israeli government's denouncement of this isolation as an expression of antisemitism misses the point. It fatally undermines the fight against the crime of antisemitism by blurring red lines. Yes, there are radical and antisemitic voices among Israel’s critics and yes there is a surge in antisemitic incidents worldwide. They do not absolve the Israeli government of dealing with the facts and take responsibility.
In light of all this, we call the Israeli government:
- To immediately end the humanitarian blockade, allowing an immediate surge into Gaza.
- To end the war through a comprehensive deal that includes release of all the hostages and withdrawal of the IDF from Gaza.
- To ensure that this war will be the last by renewing a peaceful political process to resolve the conflict through non-violent means and ensure healing and both peoples' right to self-determination, dignity and secure lives.
If the government goes forward with its military plans, it will choose the way of destruction, death, hostage abandonment and further trauma for generations. It must hear the voices of so many dedicated citizens of Israel and so many of its genuine friends and allies abroad, demanding an end to the cycle of violence, an end to war, a deal for hostage return, a path to life and relief for all.
