We demand Malaysia show bold leadership in ASEAN 2025, delivering a strong, binding declaration on environmental rights. The public, especially those most affected by pollution and ecological destruction, must be at the center.
Why Environmental Rights, and Why Now?
Across Southeast Asia, floods, heatwaves, toxic air, and pollution are devastating lives. But not equally. The poorest, the most vulnerable, and the least responsible for environmental harm suffer the most.
Environmental rights means protecting nature and prioritising people’s rights, safety, and dignity — especially for Indigenous peoples, frontline communities, and the next generation.
This year, Malaysia chairs ASEAN — giving PM Anwar a historic opportunity to shift the course of regional policy. We need bold leadership that confronts the crisis and ensures no one is left behind.

What We’re Demanding
That PM Anwar must lead ASEAN in making environmental justice a policy priority, that includes:
- Recognising and protecting Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IP&LC) rights as essential biodiversity stewards.
- Ensuring corporate accountability in transboundary haze, climate change impacts and environmental harm.
- Securing everyone’s right to clean and healthy air as a fundamental human right.
Time is running out, and reaching this target will require a strong and urgent political response. We need you. Every signature is one more reason for Prime Minister Anwar to act.
