Call on our government
to ratify the
Global Ocean Treaty
We’ve already seen how deforestation affects our rainforests. Now imagine the same happening in total darkness, over 3,500 metres below the surface—where no one is watching.
If we reach 10,000 signatures, our collective voice will send a powerful signal to the Malaysian government.
5 signatures. Help us get to 10,000!
Sign for a Global Ocean Treaty
We call our Malaysian government to step-up by ratifying the Global Ocean Treaty, to create global ocean sanctuaries.
Why should we Protect our Oceans?
The oceans are in crisis. Human activities, from industrial fishing to the threat of deep sea mining, put their future at risk. But together, we can make a difference.
Right now only 3% of our oceans are properly protected. By pushing our government to join in the treaty’s ratification, we can protect 30% of the oceans by 2030 and prevent destructive practices, and drive meaningful change.

What We’re Demanding
We need at least 60 governments to urgently sign the Global Ocean Treaty into law so we can protect at least 30% of our ocean by 2030 – and the Malaysian government is lagging behind.
- Call for our government to sign the Global Ocean Treaty into law.
- Push for an international ban on deep sea mining to make sure the industry that threatens to destroy huge parts of the ocean floor, the largest untouched ecosystem on earth, never starts anywhere.
- Support coastal communities seafarers and local fishers and help them protect their livelihoods and the ocean for everyone.
- Turn the tide on ocean plastic pollution by drastically cutting unnecessary plastic production.
- Preserve marine protected areas from oil and gas exploration.
In September 2023, Greenpeace International published 30×30: From Global Ocean Treaty to Protection at Sea setting out the political process to deliver protection for the global oceans. The report explores how cumulative pressures on the high seas are increasing, and quantifies for the first time the growing fishing activity in areas earmarked for protection, using data from Global Fishing Watch.
