From farms and rural communities across Africa to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), women farmers are calling for food and climate policies built on rights, ecological resilience, and their lived realities.
Against this backdrop, the theme of this year’s General Assembly is “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.” UNGA81 will bring leaders together for high-level discussions on climate action and the just transition, followed by a meeting on the existential threats posed by rising sea-levels.
These gains are uneven and still need stronger legal protection, but they show that quality assurance and farmers’ seed systems can coexist.
