Today, Indigenous leaders are leading community members in ceremony and action at Kinder Morgan’s construction site on Burnaby Mountain in Vancouver, on Canada’s Pacific Coast. We’ll be live blogging what happens here!

Texas-based Kinder Morgan, which already operates enough oil and gas pipelines to circle the planet three times over, wants to put another oil pipeline under its belt. The new pipeline would run from Alberta tar sands, across Indigenous lands, to the British Columbia coast, where tankers would carry tar sands oil through Pacific Ocean waters, threatening orca whales on the brink of extinction.
Today, Indigenous leaders and supporters will meet at Kwekwecnewtxw – the Watch House – and move towards Kinder Morgan’s construction zone where many may choose to take bold action in opposition to the proposed tar sands pipeline and tanker project.
Saturday is the first day of a wave of actions that follows an incredible 10,000-person march last weekend. People will be mobilizing daily against this dangerous oil mega-project. Stay tuned to this blog for updates throughout the day!
Greenpeace is providing information and training those people contemplating peaceful resistance about their rights and helping people understand what to expect in order to exercise their right to peaceful protest safely and courageously.
