Let’s disrupt the Liberal National Convention #LIB2021
Call out Prime Minister Trudeau and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland on their social media channels, by phone, by email (spam them for the planet!). In less than 10 days, the long-awaited federal budget will be released and it must include immediate and ambitious climate action. As the Liberal Party and its supporters gather for their national convention, let’s set the tone and make sure they’ve got their priorities straight. We are determined to be heard! We demand a federal budget that lives up to the grand statements in last fall’s Speech from the Throne: Remember when they promised to build back better for a greener, more just future? Well, we have yet to see the policies —- or the money —- to turn that promise into reality. Climate science tells us that we need to fully decarbonize our economy to protect life on earth. And we need to confront and disrupt growing wealth inequality, which has been exacerbated by the pandemic. Now is not the time for political bafflegab. Now is the time for bold climate action, for people and the planet. What we choose today will determine the world we live in tomorrow. Here are our demands.

How will we do this?

- A little nervous? It’s normal. Take a deep breath and take action. Climate action requires courage and we know you have it in you.
- Dial 1 613 992-4211 to reach Justin Trudeau Parliament office and 1 514 277-6020 to reach his Montreal office.
- Express calmly and respectfully why it’s urgent for our Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to take immediate and concrete measures to address the climate emergency.
Here’s a script you can use to inspire your conversation:
I know that the Liberal National Convention is currently taking place and I want my voice heard. Justin Trudeau has been promising bold climate action in the economic recovery from COVID-19, but we have yet to see the policies and the funding to make it meaningful.
At the convention over the next couple of days, I expect my government to put the climate at the heart of the discussions. Please make this an opportunity to show Canadians that you can keep your promises and put people and planet – NOT big polluters – first. I want to see funding for clean energy projects, a just transition for fossil fuel workers and a plan to restore and protect nature that includes Indigenous communities. And I want to see a well-designed Wealth Tax and tax fairness laws that will make the ultra-rich pay their fair share of a green and just recovery.
No more empty promises. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to set us on the right path. Please don’t let Canadians down.
Tactic 3: Send an email to the PM
