Seven Polish and international NGOs lodged a complaint with the European Commission as Polish minister breaches EU law and approves logging in Białowieża Forest

Bialowieza National Park in Poland

The NGOs called on the Commission to investigate an illegal plan to log Poland’s Białowieża Forest, a UNESCO heritage forest. The decision by Polish environment minister Jan Szyszko breached Article 6 of the Habitats Directive. This could result in the Polish government being taken to the European Court of Justice.
