Clean Air Rights
Every year, Malaysians say the same thing: “The haze is back.” It’s become an expected part of life, but it shouldn’t be.
The haze crisis, air pollution from industries, and poor enforcement aren’t seasonal inconveniences. They’re a public health emergency. And our work focuses on breaking this harmful cycle.

Our Approach
We believe clean air must be protected at every level, from policy to public awareness. Here’s how we tackle the problem:
Expose the truth
We investigate polluters, track hotspots, and use data to identify the root causes of haze and air pollution.
Empower communities
We work with allies, artists, researchers, and affected communities, and supporters to raise awareness and demand change together.
Influence policies
We push for stronger enforcement, clearer air quality standards, and sustainable solutions at the national and Southeast Asian levels because haze knows no borders.
Our Projects
We use art installations, creative activism, and policy recommendations to expose the real cost of haze pollution and demand long-term solutions. These actions center the voices of communities who are often left behind — those breathing the dirtiest air with the least protection.

Creative activism
We’ve teamed up with artists like Ernest Zacharevic, Cloakwork, Pangrok Sulap, Kai Yi Wong, Fahmi Reza, and more artists to turn spaces into powerful calls for clean air. Through murals, installations, and bold visuals, we turn and art into activism.

Events & activities
From art exhibitions to film screenings, we bring people together to confront the haze crisis. One highlight: Hazilla, our haze-themed film screening, made possible with the support of our allies, artists, and community members.

Policy recommendations
In 2021, we joined CERAH to file a haze complaint to SUHAKAM, calling it a human rights issue. This led to Silent Enemy, a national report urging stronger laws like a Clean Air Act. We back SUHAKAM’s push to bring it to Parliament.

Community storytelling
Co-curated with communities disproportionately affected by haze, we share the stories as a testament to resilience, as a space to give voices to survivors, sharing awareness to the public.

Regional advocacy
Air pollution crosses borders, so must the solutions. We work with our offices across Southeast Asia to strengthen regional policies, support forest fire prevention teams, and push ASEAN to act on transboundary haze.

Investigations & exposure
From exposing companies linked to illegal burning and deforestation to tracing dirty supply chains, we hold major polluters accountable. Our investigations pressure corporations to clean up their act and demand real enforcement from authorities.
