For the UN Conference on Oceans currently taking place in Nice (France), Ukraine publicly supported the High Seas Treaty — the UN Agreement on the Conservation and Rational Use of Biodiversity in Areas of the Oceans beyond National Jurisdiction. Government announced the rapid completion of legal procedures for signing of this international mechanism. Greenpeace Ukraine welcomes this important decision for the environment, taken in the face of the outstanding challenges.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection of Ukraine announced its support for the the High Seas Treaty on June 10. 

‘Ukraine has demonstrated true leadership on the international stage by deciding to join the Agreement. Even in the context of war and fight for survival, Ukraine has managed to follow European priorities and global sustainable development goals. If it is possible here, it is possible for other countries. We welcome this decision and hope that the Treaty will be signed as soon as possible,’ said Natalia Gozak, office director of Greenpeace Ukraine.
