26 January 2018 – Greenpeace Africa welcomes Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa’s statement on South Africa’ energy future at the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. With Eskom’s future hanging in the balance, it is clear how critical it is to make the appropriate energy investments to boost the economy and benefit the people of South Africa.

Senior Climate & Energy Campaign Manager at Greenpeace Africa, Melita Steele said, “Greenpeace has long argued that nuclear is never safe, and is simply unaffordable. We commend President Ramaphosa’s comments and see them contributing positively to the conversation about sustainable access to energy. We would like to see this as more than lip service, and look forward to the implementation of policy decisions and the urgent release of the updated IRP without the inclusion of crushing nuclear energy investments.”
