‘Time to Resist’ urges ASEAN leaders not to sell out on peace and climate ahead of Trump’s visit.

KUALA LUMPUR – A day before the arrival of United States President Donald Trump, activists from Greenpeace Malaysia stage a non-violent banner action, calling for Malaysia and ASEAN leaders to uphold integrity and justice in the face of the hypocrisy of climate denial and genocide.
Bright green banners bearing the message ‘TIME TO RESIST’ were dropped across several bridges in the city centre to highlight growing concerns that welcoming Trump risks legitimising the political performances of a figure criticised for vetoing multiple ceasefire resolutions in the Palestinian war, and denying climate science.
Greenpeace Malaysia emphasises that the impact of war does not end when the guns fall silent. Especially when leaders who deny climate science, ignore both the human and environmental costs of conflict that will continue to threaten survivors long after a ceasefire.
The action is a call to resist hypocrisy. It also serves as a reminder for ASEAN leaders to show strength in dealings with Trump and not be bullied into lending credibility to contradictions that undermine struggles and fight for climate justice in one of the world’s most climate-vulnerable regions.

Heng Kiah Chun, Greenpeace Malaysia Campaign Lead said:
“As citizens of Malaysia, we want our leaders to mean what they say about peace, justice, and the planet. Malaysia can trade with everyone, but not trade away its principles.
“Our message to Trump is: ‘You can’t veto peace and then sell it. You can’t deny climate change and claim to save the Earth.’
“Wars destroy lives, and the land people need to rebuild on. Denying those consequences, while denying climate change itself, means denying survivors their future and the planet its chance to heal.”
“This campaign is about dignity, not defiance; because leadership isn’t about proximity to power, it’s about the courage to stand firm for truth and integrity.”
Greenpeace Malaysia will join a broader coalition of civil-society groups tomorrow (Oct 26) to call for justice for war survivors, accountability for denial, and principled ASEAN leadership. ASEAN’s credibility is its currency, and it cannot afford to sell it out.
The #TimeToResist campaign is part of a global movement against the rise of billionaires, oligarchs and corporations undermining justice, democracy, and progress worldwide by silencing critics, suppressing free speech, and protecting powerful interests from accountability.
