On June 21, 2025, Greenpeace Southeast Asia (SEA) celebrated a major milestone: 25 years of people-powered environmental action. We gathered over a hundred donors, volunteers, and allies from across the region for the webinar Hope in Action to reflect on our shared victories, reconnect with fellow Earth defenders, and reignite their commitment to a greener and fairer future.

A Celebration of Community and Hope

The event started with a warm welcome from Cici, our colleague from Indonesia, and was followed by an icebreaker session where participants introduced themselves, shared how long they’ve been involved with Greenpeace, and talked about their go-to eco-friendly habits. This simple activity quickly filled the virtual space with laughter, solidarity, and inspiration.

Jasper, our Executive Director, who was on a train in Germany at the time, did not miss the opportunity to personally thank our donors and supporters. “We’d like to thank the donors and volunteers that we have. We are part of a 3 million-strong supporters of Greenpeace all over the world. We have this vision of a green and peaceful future for our region.”

The evening continued with a reflection on our collective victories in the region—from defending rainforests in Indonesia and promoting clean air in Malaysia, to ocean protection in Thailand and climate justice advocacy in the Philippines. It brought a sense of shared achievements within the audience, and it was nice to take a quick walk down memory lane together. The presentation, led by Amit, our Fundraising Director, highlighted the vital role supporters have played in these efforts.

Stories from the Frontlines

Another highlight of Hope in Action was the panel discussion “Voices for Climate Solutions & the Path Forward” moderated by our colleague Tina Hernandez from the Philippines. The panel featured Greenpeace campaigners across the region:

Heng (Malaysia) shared updates on clean air and forest protection

Vigie (Philippines) emphasised community-led movements and climate justice

Isa (Thailand) discussed ongoing work to protect marine ecosystems

“It’s inspiring to see that despite systemic silencing, we all, especially the panelists, keep going on to hold truth to power with empathy and impact. From land, water, climate, and everything in between, thank you for being a force for real change.”
Firdha Y., Indonesia (volunteer since January 2025)
“Being informed of what other members in other countries are doing and engaging with them gives me more confidence and a sense of solidarity in the Greenpeace movement.”
Mary M., Malaysia (volunteer since 2024)

Giving Thanks and Looking Ahead

The evening wrapped up with a lively community Q&A, engaging quizzes, and surprise giveaways that had everyone smiling—even as we ran slightly over time! The energy and engagement stayed strong till the very end.

We also surprised our attendees with digital door gifts, including an e-certificate, exclusive wallpapers, and a practical pocket guidebook to keep the spirit of the event alive in their daily lives.

“Seeing the environment change from time to time and wondering if there is going to be anything left for our children in the future. I need to act now.”
Atthawich P., Thailand (volunteer since 2020)

“… Protecting our environment is not only an individual task but it’s a community commitment. We must do our responsibility for the earth and for our future. Thanks a million for the Greenpeace Warriors.”
Emily B., The Philippines (donor since 2018)

Behind the Scenes: A Collective Effort

As one of the organisers, I can honestly say that planning Hope in Action was just as fulfilling as the event itself.

Not only did I get to collaborate with inspiring colleagues from across Southeast Asia—Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Thailand—we also had the chance to hear directly from our supporters about what they wanted to see in this event.

A few months before the celebration, we sent out a survey inviting our supporters to help shape the content of the event. The feedback helped guide everything from the flow of activities to the topics in our panel discussion. It truly was a collective effort, made for—and with—the community that powers Greenpeace SEA. And that made it all the more meaningful.

Bant to be part of our next event?

Hope in Action was more than a celebration, it was a space to connect, reflect, and dream bigger together. These kinds of events are held exclusively for our community of donors and volunteers, the people who power our campaigns and amplify our mission across borders.

If you’d like to join our next exclusive event, meet inspiring changemakers, and support urgent environmental action, here’s how you can be part of it:

👉 [Become a donor today] – Stand with Greenpeace Southeast Asia and help fund our campaigns.

👉 [Sign up to volunteer] – Lend your time and talent to the movement for a better world.

As Greenpeace Southeast Asia looks ahead to the next 25 years, one thing is clear: this movement is only possible because of people like you.
Together, we’ve built something powerful and together, we will continue to act with courage, compassion, and yes, hope.
