Founded in Vancouver on September 15th, 1971, Greenpeace has grown to become the world’s largest, independent environmental organization.
Our commitment to peace and sustainability has inspired 2.9 million supporters in over 41 countries. And we are supported by the belief that activism is essential to protecting the planet.
This fall we celebrate 40 years of bearing witness and promoting practical solutions to environmental destruction alongside our courageous activists and dedicated supporters. And we celebrate the launch of the most environmental ship we’ve ever sailed, the Rainbow Warrior III.
Join us in celebrating our 40th birthday!
In Vancouver, we’re organizing an outdoor festival on September 17th. The Rainbow Warrior Festival will feature campaign workshops, banner painting, Zodiac rides, climb training, a photo exhibit, musical acts and special guest speakers. It’s an opportunity for the whole family to spend a day outdoors and learn about environmental activism.

And our birthday will be recognized by the City of Vancouver when Mayor Gregor Robertson proclaims “Greenpeace Day” on September 15th!
