The fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC5) for a Global Plastics Treaty ended today with an agreement to meet again for what will be the final negotiation meeting to land a deal.

In response, Sarah King, Greenpeace Canada Senior Strategist, said:

“While INC5 did not land an agreement, the opportunity to secure an impactful plastics treaty that protects people and the planet is still possible. Canada showed up to these talks with more wind in its sails, but must now stay the course on supporting a meaningful agreement that prioritizes justice, plastic production reduction and eliminating harmful chemicals and products that put us all at risk. It’s time for more high ambition governments to step into the spotlight and hold the line for the next round of negotiations.”
