It is no exaggeration to say that intensive animal farming is the largest single problem with the global food system, and it would be extremely remiss to ignore this in the EU’s Farm to Fork plan – set for publication on 20 May.
Overwhelming scientific evidence shows the impacts that industrial livestock production has on climate, the environment, human health, and the welfare of rural communities. The credibility and legitimacy of the Farm to Fork strategy depend on addressing these problems and driving a transition towards the livestock sector of the twenty-first century.
We wrote to European Commission President von der Leyen and Vice-President Timmermans calling on them to ensure that the EU’s Farm to Fork plan aims to reduce the production and consumption of meat and dairy.
