Community Building

From solar power to forest schools, we’re building real, rooted solutions with communities where the frontline of climate change meets the frontline of change-making.

Our Approach

Our work is shaped by the people who call these places home. We often collaborate directly with local grassroots organizations, indigenous communities, community spaces, and our supporters.

Co-design, not top-down.

Communities tell us what they need. We build together, not for.

Local-first leadership.

Capacity-building includes training, knowledge sharing, and ensuring ownership stays local.

Scalable and sustainable.

Our solar installs are durable and maintainable. Our schools adapt to local knowledge and tradition.

Our Projects

In the face of climate change and environmental degradation, rural and Indigenous communities are often among the first impacted. Yet, the least resourced. Greenpeace Malaysia believes that true environmental justice must begin at the grassroots. Through renewable energy access, environmental education, and community-led design, we work alongside local partners to co-create solutions that empower, not impose.

Whether it’s installing solar panels in off-grid areas or supporting forest schools that blend environmental learning with local wisdom, our approach centers people, respect, and long-term resilience.

Forest schools

Co-designed with the local Orang Asli communities such as the Kampung Kelaik community, the schools bring together generations to share knowledge, preserve culture, and nurture the next wave of environmental stewards.

Solar panel installations

As part of our ongoing effort to make renewable energy accessible and practical, we work with community spaces, such as a welfare home, to install solar panels that reduce electricity costs and carbon emissions while supporting the well-being of the people they serve.

Educational workshops

Our educational workshops empower communities with knowledge on climate change issues, environmental protections, rights, and green living. These sessions aim to turn awareness into action.
