About the Role
Provide leadership and direction in the planning, development, and implementation of Greenpeace global and local Programmes and to drive the 3-year strategic plan (3-YSP) across the Southeast Asia region, specifically covering the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia, while spanning to other countries in SEA to ensure effective integration between departments and alignment with globally agreed imperatives and regional realities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set the strategic direction of GPSEA’s Programme, in consultation with the SMT, managers, and staff at regional and country levels, to help achieve Greenpeace’s long-term Programme objectives.
- Participate in the formulation and execution of GPSEA’s strategic direction in ways that ensure integration across Programme functions with the Fundraising Department, between global and local requirements, and among the various country offices.
- Participate in the development of the global Programme in Greenpeace worldwide and ensure leadership by taking the lead on global projects and aligning the Programme of GPSEA with globally agreed imperatives.
- Integrate all functions of Greenpeace into a single coherent organizational plan by working closely with the Executive Director and other directors
- Oversee and manage GPSEA’s Programme planning process.
- Take overall responsibility over the Programme budget, including overseeing the annual budget setting process for the Programme departments in consultation with the ED.
- Ensure integration throughout the programme departments to facilitate strategically identified opportunities and requirements across the region.
- Lead, motivate, and oversee the Country Directors/Representatives, Strategy & Analysis, Campaign, and Engagement Departments to ensure effective integration and performance.
- Provide Programme team leadership and take full line management responsibility for Programme unit directors and other Programme support staff.
- Participate fully as a member of the SMT, contributing significantly to senior management discussions, organizational decisions, and policies, including those relating to subjects outside the programme area.
- Undertake regular one-to-one meetings with all line-managed reports, undertake their annual PMS, and identify training needs and opportunities.
- Act as GPSEA’s most senior Programme contact point for relations with Greenpeace International and other NROs, including representing GPSEA at global Programme meetings.
- Represent Greenpeace to external audiences including media, political, and business audiences at the highest levels when Country Directors/Representatives are unavailable.
- Negotiate additional funds for GPSEA Programme initiatives from Greenpeace worldwide when applicable, and assist in fundraising efforts in support of organizational aims.
- Oversee and manage the direction and coordination of GPSEA campaigning projects and activities in conjunction with Programme unit directors, national Directors, regional coordinators, and project team leaders.
- Oversee the management of the Programme budget, including allocations for approved projects and activities (i.e., Programme Fund) to ensure resources are utilized effectively.
- Ensure the successful implementation of GPSEA programme plans and the execution of global projects.
- Ensure consistent high-quality evaluation of Greenpeace Programme activities and develop methods of measuring the success of GPSEA Programmes.
- Ensure implementation of approved recommendations (from evaluations), in cooperation with other members of the Senior Management Team, to contribute to the improvement and effectiveness of Greenpeace projects and campaigns.
- Accept and support decisions taken by the ED/SMT and communicate these effectively to all Programme units to ensure organizational coherence.
Skills and Experience Requirements:
- Academic degree in Environmental Science or any related field or equivalent experience.
- At least 10 years in senior management/leadership experience.
- International campaign leadership and organizational experience preferably in environmental campaigning organization.
- Experience in building high-profile campaign & communications strategies and supporter programmes.
- Experience of marketing, engagement, and social media techniques.
- Experience and an understanding of the role of public mobilization in support of campaign goals and objectives
Functional Skills:
- Excellent spoken and written English.
- Understanding of global media networks and how to implement global communication strategies.
- Financial management, budgeting, and long-term budget projection experience.
