Trawling damages the ocean
Bottom trawling is hugely devastating for ocean ecosystems. When fishing vessels drag vast weighted nets through delicate ecosystems, like over seamounts, they destroy everything in their path. Slow growing corals and sponges, that have provided a habitat for a diverse range of ocean creatures, are ripped to shreds.

The Government is still allowing the commercial fishing industry to plunder these precious ecosystems for profit, and in 2019 announced that more bottom trawling would be allowed. In 2020, they have proposed an increase in quota for bottom trawled fish Orange Roughy, despite the ecological emergency we're in.
