Deep Sea Oil Campaign Timeline
With the NZ Govt’s historic April 2018 announcement that there will be no new offshore oil exploration, the tide turned irreversibly against big oil. It was a huge win for the climate and for people power. Then in 2021, with the surrender of the last exploration permit outside Taranaki, oil exploration in Aotearoa is all but over. With the thousands of people, iwi, hapū and other groups who took action over a decade of campaigning together, we changed the course of history and gave hope to the world. It shows that when we stand together, we win. Here are some of the highlights and milestones along the way.
