What can you do as a volunteer?
There are many ways to get involved! You can join a local volunteer group and organize your own events, lead workshops at schools as part of the teaching team, or participate in direct actions—even as a member of the climbing team. You can raise awareness about our campaigns at petition stands, make props for our demonstrations and happenings or help organize a range of activities. If you prefer getting involved online, you can help us write articles or provide legal support. Just take your pick! Find more information here.
How local volunteer groups work and where can you find us?
Local groups are Greenpeace volunteer groups that meet regularly and help us fulfill our mission. Local groups organize various activities that contribute to Greenpeace campaigns. They operate autonomously and develop in a non-hierarchical organization. Volunteers active in local groups also have access to various educational opportunities, workshops, skill shares, etc. They have the options to go to various cultural events, trips, or just for a beer/soda after a local group meeting. Each local group organizes its activities according to its current possibilities and members‘ capacity. If you want to be a member of a local group, you are expected to be able to attend meetings regularly and take responsibility for certain tasks.

Prague
The local volunteer group in Prague meets every Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Greenpeace office and communicates primarily in English.

Brno
The local volunteer group in Brno meets every Monday at 4:00 PM at the Veronica Ecological Institute.

Olomouc
The volunteer group in Olomouc meets regularly every Wednesday at 6:30 PM. One week we meet in person, most often at Café Na Cucky, and the following week the meeting takes place online.

Other cities
At Greenpeace, we organize many activities where we need help, and it doesn’t matter where you’re from. You can get involved in various activities and training sessions throughout the Czech Republic or help us online. And if there isn’t a local Greenpeace volunteer group in your city yet, you can start one!

More information about individual opportunities to get involved
These actions draw public attention to crimes against the environment and the reckless activities of those who are destroying the Earth, both at home and abroad. Volunteers can get involved in both the preparations and the actions themselves after completing action training. Action training takes place in Prague once a year at the beginning of the year. You must be at least 17 years old to participate. More information about non-violent direct actions can be found here.
The climbing team is involved in direct actions to climb buildings, trees, structures, and other objects to place banners and various props for the action. The climbing training that will prepare you for the actions is an intensive 6-day technical climbing training course at the end of spring, once a year. You must first complete the action training at the beginning of the year, and you do not need to have any climbing experience
After completing lecturer training, you will lead workshops at elementary and secondary schools with the aim of motivating students to adopt a sustainable lifestyle and become active citizens. Approximately one workshop per month is expected during school hours, which means you will need to make time during traditional working hours.
If you successfully write a short test article, you can write articles for the Greenpeace website. The topics vary, from complex to less complex. You will have access to many different resources provided by our team of experts.
As Greenpeace, we participate in many different events and festivals where we inform the public about serious environmental issues and collect signatures for our petitions. Stands are a great place to start as a Greenpeace volunteer. You will receive the necessary information in advance, learn how to communicate about a given topic, and there will always be someone experienced with you at the booth.
Do you have practical skills and enjoy making things? Then you will definitely appreciate the opportunity to get involved in event preparations and help make a variety of props. At Greenpeace, we strive to make our events visually interesting, which often requires a lot of time for preparation. Here, too, our volunteer team plays an indispensable role. At the beginning, we will explain exactly what we need to create and then show you how to do it. As part of the crafting team, you will work with our experienced volunteers, and we will provide you with all the materials and tools you need.
