Be the voice of the Ocean

The ‘biggest conservation victory’ and ‘most important accomplishment for international cooperation’ in decades: the historic Global Ocean Treaty came into force in 2026 [1] – but it wasn’t won by politicians or corporations. It was thanks to millions of people like you – who, even in an increasingly divided world, knew that the power of all our voices together could generate a wave strong enough to change the world forever.

Soon, governments will gather at the world’s first UN Ocean COP1 to make decisions that will shape our blue planet’s future for generations to come. And the key word is “our”. Our shared future. We’re not asking permission. We’re asserting our claim to what’s ours.

Now is the time to demand that your elected representatives honour your actions. They must activate the Treaty to create fully and highly protected global ocean sanctuaries – safe places where marine life can recover and thrive, and stand firm and put the ocean before the short-term profits of destructive fishing industries.

Use your voice: tell them what the ocean means to you, your family, and your community, and remind them of the countless people and species that depend on a healthy ocean to survive.

The Global Ocean Treaty proves that when people act together in millions, our voices are strong enough to turn hope into a global agreement. It’s our right to raise our voices again, loud enough to be heard from the Mid-Atlantic Ridge to the Arctic Ocean, and from the Indian Ocean to the UN Headquarters in New York City: this wave belongs to us all – and the voice of the ocean cannot be ignored.
