Imagine a world without birdsong.

No dawn chorus spilling through your window. No distant hum of bees on a summer afternoon. Just… silence. A palpable quiet filling the space where nature sounds used to be.

It’s hard to imagine but that’s the world we’re veering towards…

Globally, climate change is killing the delicate balance of nature that fills our world with sound. Forests are burning; polar ice caps are melting; oceans are warming and the seasons are shifting.

One in eight bird species is threatened with extinction. Bees are disappearing. Even the songs of the whales are falling silent.

And when nature goes quiet, the silence speaks volumes.

Watch “Nature Sounds” – a short film to experience that silence for yourself.

Defend nature before it’s silenced for good.

The cost of climate disruption

Climate change is not a future problem. It’s a current crisis.

Scientists estimate that up to 50% of the world’s species could face extinction by the end of the century from climate-driven habitat loss, rising temperatures, and ecological disruption.

That’s not an abstract number, it’s a grim reality based on decades of global research. Studies published in journals like Science and reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) suggest that as the world heats up, habitats are changing faster than many species can adapt. Entire ecosystems are being transformed beyond recognition.

When that happens, species that rely on one another for food, shelter, or pollination start to disappear, triggering the loss of the next in the ecosystem. The chorus of nature grows quieter. And silence spreads.

Why the silence speaks volumes

Nature sounds aren’t just background noise, they’re evidence of life itself.
Each chirp, croak, buzz and song is part of a vast, interconnected orchestra – a living symphony. When one voice is lost, the harmony falters. When enough go missing, the song stops altogether.

Imagine children growing up never knowing what birds sound like. Imagine summer nights without cicadas; beaches without seabirds; oceans without whale song. It’s not just losing a part of nature, it’s losing the soundtrack of our shared home and part of what makes being alive on this planet so profoundly moving.

There’s still time to listen

But silence isn’t inevitable. Not yet.

We can still turn down the volume on climate change and turn up the sound of life again by protecting habitats, cutting emissions, and demanding stronger action from those in power. By defending nature where voices still sing.

Because the world is so much more beautiful when it sings.

Let’s make sure it never goes quiet.
