It’s clear: we have 12 years to act. We are living in a climate emergency where floods, wildfires and rising sea levels are impacting us around the world- but you – the youth – can still do something about it. There is hope.  A just and livable future is still possible, and we are gathering to build this.

Our politicians are talking the talk, but you can make them walk the walk.

Around the world youth are rising to demand climate action, and resist the status quo. We see hundreds of thousands filling the streets in strikes, and thousands demanding justice from corporations and their governments.

And that is why the POWERSHIFT: Young & Rising is preparing to meet on February 14-18, 2019 in Ottawa, on the land of the Algonquin Anishinabe.

This is the chance to forge the bonds needed to solidify a long-lasting, resolute, and intersectional climate movement. Because this is our future, and it is worth fighting for.

We are gathering to fight for the largest issue of our time.

What is POWERSHIFT and how did it come about ?

Thanks to you.

POWERSHIFT is bringing together hundreds of young people together keen to learn and to engage for #climateaction. This is the place to be if you feel the urge but don’t know where to start. The stories and actions of youth today are more important than ever. You can rise for climate justice.

Canada can transition to a renewable energy economy, but that is only possible if we all put our efforts together into tying our missions and fighting against the common enemy: #climatechange.

It is you, the youth, joining us, from the icy Arctic landscapes, from the wide open plains, and from the urban centers stretching across Canada, who will help us shape the large-scale mobilization needed this year to pressure our governments and to set the course for the four years to come; steering our nations into a world free from fossil fuels, and safe below 1.5 ºC.

Climate change is about our everyday lives, and the decision we all take as individuals and societies.

Who is behind POWERSHIFT ?

All of you.

This is the fruit of labour of many volunteers and militants from across different grassroot organizations and environmental non-governmental organizations.

Come learn from peers, elders, and experts alike through workshops and skill-building sessions.

Greenpeace will be participating and giving four different workshops, on blockades, climbing, and media and storytelling.

Don’t Miss out!

There are amazing speakers flying in from all over Canada. Make sure you get your spots for the two days of keynote speeches.

Check out the agenda here!

What can you do ?

You can register to engage in  workshops, performances, panels and trainings!

Spread the word to help us and other groups build for a year of mobilization that will mark social justice history!

Fighting for our planet’s well being has to start with policies and regulations that distance us from polluting projects which endanger our lives and put us in a more vulnerable situation.

We can do it with you.

The time to act is NOW. Will you rise with us ?

In Solidarity,

Mary
