The role

The Programme Lead provides leadership and direction in the planning, development and implementation of GPCZ programs within the Greenpeace global program by working closely with Greenpeace International, Greenpeace EU collaboration, and other National Regional offices to realize Greenpeace’s overall objectives, through cutting-edge campaigning based on people power and supported by regional research of environmental abuses, expose them and drive solutions in a non-violent creative way.

The ideal candidate and core competencies

The Programme Lead is one of the most senior and critical members of the Greenpeace team. The candidate we are looking for fulfills the majority of  competencies under the ´expected´ sets – ´Program strategy and leadership´, and ´Personal Profile´, and at least one of the three ´desirable´ competency sets (or a cross-cutting combination between all). The exact skills as well as opportunities for improvement of the elected candidate will be used to adjust the final list of tasks, programme team structure, and their learning journey within Greenpeace. Program strategy and leadership (expected)

  • is able to coordinate the implementation of multiple projects and their resources towards the achievement of organizational objectives
  • has proven record of developing and implementing long-term programmatic strategies
  • has experience working across teams to ensure alignment with programme vision
  • encourages innovation and learning among programme teams
  • encourages and supports informed risk-taking and risk-management

Personal Profile (expected)

  • is excited about protecting life on the planet and cares about Greenpeace core values
  • develops and maintains effective relationships with others, in particular building constructive and long-term relationships with all parties involved in the job
  • is fluent in Czech and English language at professional level
  • either has experience or is open to representing an organization publicly or towards relevant stakeholders
  • respects and follows the self-organizing principles and values
  • supports working in a diverse team of colleagues
  • is aware of burnout risk of staff and make sure the staff follow the work-life balance principles
  • proactively handles difficult & conflict situations
  • is stress-resistant

Project Management (desirable)

  • has successfully managed medium-sized projects, ensuring fulfillment of project objectives and timelines
  • knows their way around project budgets, and is able to assist project teams in their design and follow-up
  • is sufficiently familiar with the principles of project results monitoring (Monitoring, Evaluation, Assessment, Learning frameworks)
  • had a leading role in project design and planning (campaign projects are a strong advantage)

Public Campaigning (desirable)

  • has previous experience working on non-profit public campaigns with communication and engagement components
  • understands key principles of communication and engagement strategies and their role in achieving campaign objectives
  • is familiar with design and application of audience research
  • is familiar with or excited to learn about “People Power” in campaigning

Knowledge of environmental affairs (desirable)

  • keeps up to date on global environmental affairs and key trends
  • has a demonstrated ability to familiarize themselves with an environment related topic (with legal, ecological, political, or economic lens) as part of their previous work, or has their own area of keen interest
  • understands main principles and key stakeholders in environmental policy-making in Czech republic, and at multilateral level

Key responsibilities

Responsibilities – collaboration with Global Programme Community of GP

  • represent GPCZ at the international level in the development of global strategies and longer-term thinking about campaign priorities and resources for the global organization
  • ensure the development of individual campaigns and projects plans are in line with both short and long term goals for GPCZ taking into account priorities of the global and European programme
  • funding – scope for opportunities for internal fundings and (in collaboration with the Steering Committee) external grant opportunities at international level
  • identify ways to strengthen integration of GPCZ within the global GP programme community, and opportunities for knowledge and experience sharing

Responsibilities – team leadership and campaign coordination

  • in collaboration with Engagement and Fundraising teams, ensure our campaign portfolio meets organizational needs while delivering meaningful impact 
  • lead the programme part of the planning process of campaigns and wider programme strategies (3-Year Plan) and identify ways and methods of monitoring their progress
  • follow, analyze and respond to the national and international developments and events (outside and inside Greenpeace) to ensure the sharing of best practices, lessons learned and innovations, and use key opportunities for development of GPCZ Program
  • review and monitor the progress of the programme portfolio on a regular basis to ensure projects are running in line with the individual plans and propose necessary changes and improvements
  • funding – coordinates the process of ECF fund and other national grants
  • budgets – take responsibility for the programme budget to be in line with office priorities as well as global programme priorities, and support campaign Project Leads in managing and forecasting their assigned budgets
  • support the campaign team leads in developing and managing thematic expertise (internal and external) related to the fulfillment of GPCZ programme goals and objectives
  • when suitable and needed, represent GPCZ programme and campaigns to other stakeholders (media, decision-makers, partners, donors and volunteers)
  • represent programme area and participate in collaborative decision-making as part of the organizational Steering Committee
