A US court has just sided with fossil fuel pipeline giant Energy Transfer and ordered Greenpeace International and Greenpeace entities in the US to pay US$ 345 million.
Quick backstory: last year, a Morton County jury of nine reached a verdict in Energy Transfer’s abusive intimidation lawsuit against Greenpeace entities in the US (Greenpeace Inc, Greenpeace Fund), and Greenpeace International.

The new judgment from the North Dakota court rejects portions of the absurd jury verdict delivered last March but still awards hundreds of millions of dollars to ET without a sound basis in law, failing to solve the injustices of the case. This judgement is the biggest damage award ever imposed on Greenpeace organisations. It’s meant to shut the movement up.

So let’s be clear: this type of corporate bullying is designed to rob us of our rights and freedoms.
Energy Transfer has pursued this intimidation lawsuit because Greenpeace USA and Greenpeace International dared to show solidarity with Indigenous environmental defenders who oppose the climate-wrecking Dakota Access Pipeline. It was never about justice and Energy Transfer’s SLAPP suit remains a blatant attempt to silence free speech, erase Indigenous leadership of the Standing Rock movement, and punish solidarity with peaceful resistance to the Dakota Access Pipeline.

So what comes next? Greenpeace International and Greenpeace organisations in the US will seek a new trial, and if that is denied, appeal the judgment with the North Dakota Supreme Court.
At the same time, Greenpeace International has a suit pending against Energy Transfer in the Netherlands under the EU’s anti-SLAPP directive – a landmark test case against corporate bullying.
Energy Transfer’s SLAPPs are part of a wave of abusive lawsuits filed by Big Oil companies like Shell, Total, and ENI against Greenpeace entities in recent years but we will continue to resist intimidation tactics. The fight against Energy Transfer’s SLAPP continues — and it is far from over. We will not be silenced.

We will only get louder, joining our voices to those of our allies all around the world against the corporate polluters and billionaire oligarchs who prioritise profits over people and the planet.
Tell Energy Transfer and other corporate bullies: Stop your attacks on free speech.

I was a member in 80s as a teenager. I wrote to my MP and others. I thought as an adult a balance with nature and not its annihilation would happen. I fully back all campaigns. Keep your chins up and know that so many people in the world are with you.
Then the big corporations when they pollute, and dry up their resources (like freshwater), they threaten and go after other countries for their natural resources. Canada, Greenland, just a name a few... And they go after countries that have their own oil that because the United States didn't have control over, abducted IE Venezuela, and Iran (because big oil has no control over their exports, which digs into their profits)... Look at Iraq, that was a false red flag war. There is cleaner options but most people either don't believe it or think it's too expensive. There's a reason why that is.
Sadly we in the UK have a mob run by Nigel Farage an extremely rich friend of billionaires similar to the Trumpian movement in the US, it goes under the name of Reform. They are hovering in the wings to become the governing party, they do it through lies and misinformation promising to help the common man whilst being in cahoots and in the pockets of big business, one of their crew the leader for Reform Wales who was also an MEP was recently sent to prison for accepting bribes to promote Russian (Putin) narratives. This is the type of thing we are up against. You have to stand up and fight for what you believe in as people like this will happily take it away from you.
Thank you for your post regarding the energy transfer problem. I am at an age now when corporate filth like this do not surprise me. The world is an inherently evil place full of filth like Energy Transfer. I want to register my support for this problem . I don't have much money but have time and commitment. I look forward to hearing from you. PLease let me know what I can do
the mega companies do not want the people to know what they are doing. Happy that Greenpeace is here to let us know what is going on.
Unfortunately there’s way too many selfish and greedy people on this planet. I have heard people saying “I don’t care, I won’t be around to see the damage to the planet”. Between that and the naysayers, this poor planet is doomed. I don’t have children but I do care about our planet and the billions of people on it. I guess I must be naive as I just don’t understand this ‘Bugger you mate, I’m alright’ attitude! ? Good luck with your court appeal 🌈😊
uS Politics picked up court case and you know who banned terms being said by Federal US workers: Carbon Neutral, Green Energy; non petroleum-Based fuels; Climate change; Global warming. energy conversion away from Fossil Fuels. This is the new lack of freedom in the US. And sea creatures are endangered already.
