Clean AI, Clean Future

AI is transforming our world, but the chips that power it are still built on dirty energy.

While the US company NVIDIA promotes its products as climate solutions, its supply chain tells a different story. With many of its major suppliers operating factories in East Asia, NVIDIA essentially outsources its pollution to a region already heavily dependent on fossil fuels and deeply exposed to climate risks.

This is not the tomorrow we’ve imagined. Now’s the moment to act.

We demand NVIDIA to:

  1. Publish transparent, annual updates on supplier emissions and renewable use.
  2. Commit to 100% renewable energy across its supply chain by 2030, and stop relying on fossil and nuclear power.
  3. Invest in and advocate for new renewable capacity in key supplier regions like Taiwan and South Korea.

Why does this matter?

The global AI boom is fueled by more than just algorithms; it relies on energy. Unfortunately, the chips that drive AI are still produced using dirty fossil fuels, and their carbon footprint is growing fast.

According to Greenpeace East Asia, global electricity consumption for AI chip manufacturing surged by nearly 4 times just between 2023 and 2024. Most of this chip production happens in East Asia, where fossil fuels already dominate the power grids. Instead of boosting renewable energy capacity, the AI boom is often used to justify new fossil fuel and nuclear projects in these regions, deepening their climate struggles.

As one of the world’s most valuable companies and a driving force of the AI revolution, NVIDIA has both the power and the responsibility to lead. Its influence on suppliers and governments could accelerate renewable energy development in key regions like Taiwan and South Korea.

However, in our latest ranking of AI giants, NVIDIA received an “F” for its lack of progress on supply chain decarbonization. The company has set no ambitious emission reduction target, has not committed its suppliers to renewable energy, and has shown little real action or investment.

AI should be a catalyst for progress, not pollution. NVIDIA must step up now to build a clean supply chain that powers a clean future.
