Plastic is literally everywhere—in the depths of the oceans, on mountain peaks, in the stomachs of birds and mammals, in the food we eat, and in the air we breathe. In less than 70 years of mass production, it has worked its way into every nook and cranny of the planet. How did it get so out of control?
The plastic pollution crisis is one of the most visible symptoms of a broken system that is failing both us and the planet we call home. Natural resources are extracted to maximise profits over people. Corporations and governments power a throwaway economic model, where convenience and economic growth trumps the costs to our communities.
Because plastic is everywhere, it also offers us an incredible opportunity to act.
Together we can create a new normal that leaves single-use products behind. And by doing so, we can confront not only plastic pollution, but the economic systems that profit from it and help fuel the climate crisis. To succeed, we need both individual and collective action. We need small decisions, huge campaigns, and everything in between. We need you.
