COP30 – UN Climate Change Conference

This will be the first COP since global average temperatures exceeded 1.5°C in 2024 – an alarming indicator of the accelerating climate crisis. As we approach dangerous tipping points, COP30 must urgently shift from commitments to implementation, and from voluntary initiatives to coordinated global action.

Fires burn trees at a plantation area, in Palangkaraya city, Central Kalimantan. This year’s nearly 2,000 wildfires are burning across Indonesia. It is the worst year since 2015. Officials estimate that the fires have burned more than 800,000 acres. Greenpeace criticized the government for not taking action against the companies that set fires to clear land for agriculture purposes.

Greenpeace Romania activists protested in the dried-up lake of Comana Natural Park to raise awareness about the escalating climate crisis. They displayed powerful messages such as “The Coolest Summer We Have Left,” “The Future Runs Dry,” “Stop Fossil Fuels, Protect Water,” and “WHO PAYS.” Comana Natural Park, known for its rich biodiversity, is now suffering from severe drought. Over 650 localities in Romania face water restrictions, with rivers and lakes drying up at an alarming rate. Romania must take urgent action to reduce fossil fuel dependence, stop new fossil fuels investments and protect our water resources for future generations.

  1. A Global Response Plan to address the 1.5°C  ambition gap and accelerate emissions reductions in this critical decade.
  1. A new, dedicated 5-year Forest Action Plan to halt and reverse deforestation and forest degradation by 2030.
  1. The establishment of a new standing UNFCCC agenda item to drive NCQG delivery, particularly scaling-up public finance from developed countries, and advance polluter-pays taxation to unlock scaled-up public finance for developing countries.
