Greenpeace volunteers get ready to serve delicious plant-based snacks at the Quezon City Hall, Quezon City, Philippines on 11 June 2018. Greenpeace Philippines celebrated the launch of ‘World Meat-Free Week’ — a global movement to encourage the public to adopt a healthier plant-based diet. The group sought the support of public officials to provide plant-based meal options in schools in an effort to instill a healthier and environment-conscious mindset among children. Greenpeace is calling on the Filipino public to eat at least two meat-free meals this week.

Surigao Del Norte’s Incident Command Post for Typhoon Odette (int’l name: Rai) operations now have an additional stable supply of electricity, as Greenpeace installed solar panels that will allow staff to charge more laptops, radio, phones, and other devices necessary for reporting and monitoring. Greenpeace said solar power is an alternative to the dirty, inflexible fossil fuel sources that are lacking in supply in the area. In the long-term, Greenpeace hopes the country will expedite its transition to renewable energy as part of a national climate emergency declaration, as fossil fuels are one of the biggest contributors to the worsening climate crisis.
