As I write,  Palestinians are being starved to death by Israeli forces. Every day, for almost two years now, there are new horrors:. Israeli forces shooting unarmed civilians trying to access aid and assassinating journalists, and now Netanyahu is planning to take over Gaza city by force.

As we witness a genocide inflicted on the people of Palestine in real time it’s easy to feel helpless. But we’re not helpless, and because we care, we must act.

Here are six actions for Gaza to share with your friends and whānau.

Urge the PM to act on Gaza

There is intense pressure on the NZ Government to take stronger action on Gaza. Getting more people to raise concerns directly with the Prime Minister is especially important right now as the pressure mounts on the Government to recognise Palestine as a state.

Send a message to the Prime Minister calling on him to sanction Israel now.

Take Action

Be visible in solidarity for Gaza

Support or head along to rallies in your region. In some cities groups are organising weekly actions in solidarity for the people of Gaza. Simply sharing these actions is also a way to support keeping the issue visible in the public eye.

Ask your local MP where they stand on Gaza

Message your local MP and ask their position on the ‘Unlawful Occupation of Palestine Sanctions Bill’ which will pass if six more MPs support the Bill.

Boycott goods and services that support genocide

Follow and amplify the flotilla

Follow the Global Sumud Flotilla, a flotilla of international ships aiming to break the siege on Gaza by sea. The planned dates are to sail sometime between the end of August and September 2025.

Divest from wars and genocide
