Purpose of role
Purpose of this role is to generate the optimal fundraising income for GP India by acquiring, retaining, upgrading, maintaining and developing relationships with Major donors across the specified region. Work on regions annual fundraising plan and goals for major donors/foundations including acquisition, retention, reactivation, upgrade, special appeals, and consistent proposal writing to leverage major gifts contribution to the overall fundraising income.
Research and Prospect potential High-value donors and compile the corresponding documentation and funding proposals required for High Value support. Proactively manage and review the cold and longshot prospect lists. Attend regular Major Gift Prospecting meetings and contribute to strategy discussions both internally and externally.
Main Duties
Building Relationships.
● Work with existing and new donors in the Major donor area of work.
● Use strong interpersonal skills to advise, persuade and convert existing and new donors on a range of issues of client’s campaigns and generate donations.
● Develop appropriate cultivation strategies for them.
● Move potential donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure.
● Make solicitations when appropriate.
● Develop appropriate layers of communication based on the existing journey of a major donor.
● Ensure all supporter information and our interactions are updated at regular intervals in SF.
● Ensure all reports and relevant communication are updated to the Donors timely.
Donor Engagement:
● Utilising the different techniques of donor engagement for optimal results.
● Thorough profiling and research of all the donors in database to identify their interests, wealth band, philanthropy interest etc and devise plans to approach them
● Record relevant information about the supporters’ areas of interest, expertise, and resources he/she can provide to Greenpeace in SF.
● Thorough research and identification of donors who can be potential major donors for the organisation.
● Maintain excellent donor relations through personal contacts, Direct mail, letters, Website, social media, Text/SMS.
● Creating opportunities where donors can be engaged by organising project site visits.
● Working closely with campaigners and involving them in donor meetings.
● Build and manage internal and external networks to assist in identification, cultivation and solicitation of high value donors and support. Developing tailor made content for supporter engagement (Mailers, Proposals, Campaign briefs, Activity reports etc).
Organising Fundraising events:
● Planning and organising minimum 2 fundraising events in a year, determining the budget and ROI.
● Ability to co-ordinate with all the external vendors and internal
stakeholders in relation to supporter events and engagement.
● Identifying supporters from existing pools, who can be our amplifiers and can organise events with their network.
● Ability to research and identify event management companies who can organise Big FR gatherings/Events.
● Exploring creative ideas to conduct supporter events.
Coordination:
● Co-ordinating with the respective Fund-Raising Units/Unit Heads, wherever any support is required for the Major donor program.
● Coordinate with different units to keep track of possible high value fundraising opportunities and for important updates to be sent to Major donor Prospects.
● Working closely with the communication team to ensure that Major donor communication is happening in line with organisational standards.
● Coordinate with other supporting strand members for enriching the Major donor data pool.
● Organising small team talks with other FR teams across cities.
Creating data pool:
● Creating a data pool of Foundations & Trust, Legacy giving, Memorial giving, tribute giving would form an important part in the day-to-day planning process.
Project Participation:
● Being a part of the project core team minimum 2 in a year and developing grant proposals for the program
● Analysing the campaign information like reports, periodicals and developing content for Major donor communication
● Assisting the Major donor manager in setting Key Influencer Program (Celebrity Engagement)
Decisions
● Identify which campaign information should be shared with the supporters and in what format, for sensitive issues recommend and decide
communication strategy that will significantly contribute to the Units budget in the short to medium term.
● Collaborate with a cross functions team for donor engagement and branding as per the organization’s needs.
● Publications and reports that need to be shared with the supporters.
Knowledge & Experience
● Minimum of 6-8 years’ work experience in handling key and
complex/diverse Accounts
● Post Graduate qualification is desirable.
● Computer literacy is essential as the role requires data generation and analysis.
● Good written and verbal communication skills as this role requires a lot of content development.
● Proactive & self-motivated, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
● A creative and innovative thinker, flexible, energetic, and Enthusiastic.
● Knowledge of current affairs.
Organisation Skills
Planning and organizing:
● Work with the line manager to prepare the region’s income / expenses.
● Breaking down annual targets into monthly and weekly plans
● Record and organize and disseminate the information provided by Campaigners to our donors.
● Segmenting supporters. Preparing a meeting plan and organizing travel plans and finalizing meetings accordingly.
● Plan and organize donor meetings for self and Manager/SMT during their city visits.
● Being aware of constraints around donor expectations and find solutions on case-to-case basis.
Analysis:
● Analyze data on a regular basis to keep track of conversion percentages, increase in average donation values, contact percentage, etc.
● Working on preparing individual and strand reports which would provide detailed insight and intelligence on Major donor programs, and which can also be used for Middle donors.
● Based on the journey of Major donors and studying the internal campaigns and external scenarios, risks, and other factors, develop new and
innovative ways to ensure Donor retention, upgrade, and scale in the donation.
● Also look at ways in which such models can also be replicated in the Middle donor team.
Research:
● Carrying out extensive research of market scenarios.
● Making use of different tools for doing research
Innovation:
● Major Donor Fundraisers need to be constantly on the lookout of new modes of Fund Raising.
● Identify new areas of lead generation.
Working with others:
● The role requires dynamism and good communication skills. It would also require considerable tact and diplomacy as it involves many interpersonal interactions with people of varying personalities.
Other essential requirements
● Travelling: 2 city travels in a month for minimum 75 days in a year. The Major Donor Fundraiser should also be ready to travel more than twice in a month, depending on supporter meetings.
● The role will also require working on a weekend occasionally if the situation demands.
