It’s time for the biggest polluters to pay their fair share. Most of us can agree that it is not fair for those least responsible to pay the biggest price. The reality is that the biggest polluters are currently paying NOTHING towards the costs of increasingly severe extreme weather events that are destroying millions of lives and homes, especially in communities least responsible for the climate crisis.
The fossil fuel industry has known for decades that its operations drive climate change. Yet, instead of addressing the issue, they continue to make record profits: up to over US$2.8 billion[1] every single day for the past 50 years.
In India, the impact is staggering. Extreme weather events claimed over 3,200 lives and destroyed over 2.3 lakh houses in the first nine months of 2024.[2]
The country faced extreme weather events on 93% of the days in the year’s first nine months. That is 255 out of 274 days.
Meanwhile, last year’s cost to ordinary people of climate and weather events was estimated at a staggering US$300 billion![3] globally.
This is deeply unfair, but we can change it!
Governments have a duty to protect people and the planet. As the world moves towards a fossil fuel phase-out, it is crucial that governments stop new oil and gas projects and make the fossil fuel industry pay for the damage they’ve done.
It’s time to make the polluters pay. Join the call to hold the fossil fuel industry accountable. Sign the petition now, to demand that they pay for the climate crisis they created and support a safe and fair future for all.

We demand that fossil fuel companies must be forced to:
- Stop their climate wrecking activities including their involvement in new fossil fuel projects.
- Admit and apologise for their actions.
- Repair and pay for the damage they have caused.
