Council for National Policy

Koch Industries Climate Denial Front Group

$100,000 from Koch foundations, 1997-2014

The Council for National Policy was founded in 1981 and is recognized as a particularly secretive gathering of networked conservative political figures. Described by ABC News as a group whose members “want to control everything in the world,” CNP brings political elites together for three annual conferences, providing an exclusive platform for networking, fundraising and strategizing on a variety of political, social and religious issues.

CNP’s exclusive conferences feature a variety of speakers, including those who promote and echo doubt over settled climate science. Recent CNP speeches denying the premises or conclusions of credible climate research include:

“the increase in global temperatures in the last years, decades and centuries has been very small and because of its size practically negligible in its actual impact upon human beings and their activities.”

“So I thought let’s at least check the science, only to find out there isn’t time, but please go to my website. This is just — well, you missed it. This was one of the real good examples of Dr. Richard Lindzen in what he said about the science, but you won’t win on the science argument. You can win on the economics argument.”

“And now on to global warming, which I think they now call ‘manmade climate change’ because it’s colder than hotter.”

“These [climate] policies would do great harm to humanity, for the only known way to dramatically reduce greenhouse gases is to drastically reduce fossil fuel consumption.”

“Global warmism is not a scientific consensus; it is a belief system.”

Charles G. Koch is a recipient of the Council’s “Free Enterprise Award.”
