The Rainbow Warrior is not only the greenest campaign ship on earth; she is also the most beautiful. She is also almost mythological to Greenpeace and our supporters. This was clear when the Swedish singer-song writer and actor Regina Lund first set eyes on the Rainbow Warrior in Stockholm harbor (Stories from the Rainbow Warrior:Episode 10). Stars came in her eyes, a broad smile on her lips and she whoo-hoo’ed as she followed Rainbow warrior in an action boat, when the ship left Stockholm. Once onboard, she greeted everybody at least once, hugged the captain and couldn’t wait to get instructions on duties onboard, rules and regulations.
However, it turned out that life onboard is not always exactly glamorous. Once the Rainbow warrior passed Skagen, the top of Denmark, on her way between Stockholm, Sweden and Bremen, Germany, she went face first into a fresh gale. For two full days, the ship turned into a malicious rollercoaster. We were thrown back and forth, from side to side and up and down. Suddenly mess duty, floor mopping and garbage handling were not the easiest tasks to end and could easily cost you at least one trip to the bathroom.
One of the few people on board who didn’t get sick during the gale in the North Sea, was the videographer Gustav Forsberg. Here you can watch his little documentary from life onboard the legendary Rainbow Warrior through a gale.
