Toolkit: Storytelling 101
Intro
There’s no better way to amplify the struggles our communities are going through than using social media — especially during these uncertain times.
This toolkit will discuss
- How to build your own ‘Lucha Ambiental’ story
- How to support friends, family, volunteers to do the same.
- How to develop our own stories will help amplify our community’s stories around environmental injustices.
Watch the Story of self training below:
The basics
Why tell stories?
The shortest distance between two people is a story.
What is your story?
A character tells a story.
- Beginning (introduction)
- Middle (struggle, conflict, tension)
- Climax (point of highest intensity in the story)
- End (desire for resolution, work through the conflict)
The audience follows the journey because they want to see the character overcome the conflict

What’s your story? Find a friend to listen to your story.
Think. Gather your thoughts and think about YOUR ‘Lucha Ambiental’ story.
Share. Talk about your ‘Lucha Ambiental’ (Environmental Fight) story– why are you fighting for the climate?
Respond. Ask your friend to point out where they heard the beginning, the middle (climax), and the end.
Why is it important for us to share our stories?
Storytellers have the power to change the world. The election is the beginning of the fight to pass a Green New Deal. Choosing a movable candidate in the White House is the first step in setting ourselves up for a green, peaceful, and just future.
What can you say in your recording?
- “In order for our community to have a chance at a just and healthy future we must vote.”
- “We need a leader that cares about my community’s well being, and that will fight for a Green New Deal.”
- “Let’s vote for a Climate Leader.”
Why are we doing this?
- Power to our communities.
- A platform for our voices
- Mobilize the masses to the polls.
- Elect a President that will fight for a just, healthy, and safe future for all.
What kinds of stories?
- Stories of personal and collective power
- We are leading the way
- There is joy and beauty here
- Imagining the future that we want to see
