When over 100 groups came together to launch The Pact for a Green New Deal in May, we called for town halls to take place from coast to coast, to shape with you a shared vision of a Green New Deal for all.
In less than a month, volunteers organized an astounding 150+ town halls, taking place in every single province and territory. More than 7000 people showed up and shared their ideas.
Here are a few of the things we heard from you, over and over again, that a Green New Deal must include.

Greenpeace Canada is part of a network of workers, artists, Indigenous leaders, scientists, youth, and people directly impacted by climate catastrophe — from cities and towns, businesses and communities, working beyond our political differences and in solidarity with Indigenous peoples — who want to ensure a safe world for our children and all generations after that.

All good. But very sorry there is no mention to a shift to a plant-based diet.
I have been to three of those GND meetings, and none of those points came up. I think it was just another exercise in pretending to listen and then imposing a predetermined agenda. I have been working on appropriate tech since '77, designing disruptive improvements unwanted by capital, and am not being heard.
Justin Trudeau is either completely corrupt or completely incompetent. Either way the message for the Liberals is that TMX pipeline cabinet supporters must go if the Liberals are to be re-elected with a majority.
Life after fossil fuel will not be rosy if we are not drastically change our habits and curb the rampant consumerism. Unfortunately, there are no signs that this change is happening, a look at any shopping centre will prove that. Advertising for countless unnecessary gadgets is still carried by the mainstream media, and the economy still trumps any meaningful steps to avert a climate catastrophe. It appears that no one wants to name capitalism as the cause of climate change or the biggest polluter of all, the military. It is sad but I see to few signs that the climate emergency is taken serious by politicians and big business who would have the power to affect real change. Lip service and tokenism is not enough.
Lets get this done my home has quit gas severely reduced meat moved to reusable plastics and stopped flying now it’s big industry’s turn to do its part!!!!
This is encouraging and not in the least too ambitious - it is a good start - I would look for environmental police as a separate force to ensure that the rules we come up with are honoured. We must keep thinking , keep shaking up every level of government , until every man woman and child is onboard. I hear we have the technology to avoid complete disaster - we must start utilizing it right now. (e.g. why am I still seeing gasoline powered cars on the road?) . Bravo - onwards and upwards!!!
heat wave increase due to rapid industralization, harm to ozone layer whichcause heat wave increase all happen to growth of human population
The elephant in the room! Too many of us, let's all practice non-procreative sex!
Without the mention of the most damaging industry to our planet and future, and the easiest to implement, that being the animal agriculture industry, this proposal is no more useful than used toilet paper!!!
Ask your friends, family, neighbours etc individually WHAT HE/SHE IS DOING. No one can say there is nothing. Anyone can i) speak out in public, ii) write a letter to the Editor, iii) confront your MP/MPP, iv) write to the PM/Premier, v) turn out at a rally, AND i) cut all personal use of plastic, ii) give up air travel for pleasure, iii) give up your car(!), iv) lower you air conditioner and dress more warmly, v) get a bike, and/or start walking everywhere you can, vi) lower your beef consumption, vii) shower rather than bath, and keep it short, viii) give up electric clothes dryer, & hang out your laundry, ix) reduce your grass lawn, and cut grass by hand(no power mower), x) joint the Green Party, xi) Donate to Environmental Causes (e.g. Greenpeace etc etc
The world has the scientific understanding, the technological capacity, and the financial means to hold global temperature increases to 1.5ºC above pre-industrial levels, says the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. What's needed is political will. I'm excited to be part of the Green New Deal movement working to generate that political will.

im outside canada... or would this new deal be only for canadiens...?? luis
Unfortunately this new green deal is completely useless as it makes no mention of the most damaging industry of all, and the easiest to implement, that being the industry of animal agriculture, and until we address this, we are all DOOMED!
I am happy to see so many progressive ideas put forth. I am very disappointed, however, that there is no specific language about protecting species at risk (let alone enabling species to flourish). I mentioned this at our local Green Deal meeting and to our local Green MP candidate. I can therefore not support the platform as it is.
Throw away your cloths dryer, which produce so much heat, just hang the laundry in the sun, half your beef consumption, simplify your life and distance the rampant consumerism , do not be controlled by the capital. India! cap your population!
