Air pollution has become one of the most pressing issues globally making it the fifth largest cause for premature death. As a result of air pollution, the incidents of serious health problems among children are on the rise. Air is essential for life, and key to human health and flourishing. There is nothing more important than Right to Clean Air. After years of public pressure and campaigning by civil societies, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change launched the National Clean Air Programme on January 2019. While it is a first step in tackling Air pollution, the programme needs to be further strengthened and should be effectively implemented.
Together we can transform this vision into action.
Clean air is the principal prerequisite to sustain healthy lives of people. But the reality is that Air pollution has become “public health emergency”.
Behind the choking haze lies the fossil fuel industry, which continues to profit from polluting our air.
On the other hand, our government is failing to implement strict, time bound measures across sectors and hold polluters accountable.
There are still 139 cities in India which are not covered under National Clean Air Programme.
There are no places left in the country that can be considered “healthy and breathable”.
People are on the forefront of the solution to the biggest threats to humankind.
It is because of the action and efforts of people like you, the government has announced the “National Clean Air Programme”. Further we need to ensure that it is strengthened and implemented in a timely manner.
To fight for clean air is not only for our better health, but also to ensure a healthy planet. Polluted air is an emergency which needs to be addressed for a better future of all. And our small efforts can make a big change and our efforts will be an awareness for the whole society. We need YOU to amplify the demand for clean air and make this effort so that we and our upcoming generation can breathe clean and fresh air.
